Outlaws Play in Toys-for-Tots
Bowl - The Orange County Falcons
and Orlando Outlaws squared off for the first ever Mythical
Orlando City Championship in the Toys-for-Tots bowl. This
was the first game played by the Outlaws, and the Falcons
were more than gracious hosts. “Having our first game
against such a talented and tenured team was just the opponent
needed to evaluate where and how our organization has evolved
to this point” said Vice President Dan Plouff.
The Orlando Outlaws first
appearance in the Toys for Tots Bowl, proved to be rewarding
experience for both the Outlaws and Toys for Tots. The Outlaws
made an impressive start to their preseason, winning 21
– 8 over the Orange County Falcons.
The Outlaws scored first
in the opening quarter with Cornelius Smith’s 4 yard
run into the endzone. The Outlaws struck again early in
the second, on a 14 yard pass from Outlaws quarterback Bobby
Zinsmaster to Cliff Martin. The Outlaws ended the half leading
the Falcons 14 – 0.
The second half saw a lot
of two way play, with both defenses not willing to budge.
The Falcons showed why they have always been a tough opponent
by scoring to make it 14-8, after connecting on a two point
conversion. Shortly after that, Outlaws defensive back John
Haritan picked off a pass and ran it back to making the
final score of the game. The Outlaws defense created a number
of turnovers throughout the game and kept a relentless amount
of pressure on the Falcon’s quarterback.
The Outlaws would like to
thank their fans for the great turnout which yielded numerous
donations for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots
Program. If you would like to find out more about the Toys
for Tots Program or make additional donations visit the
